Vision & Mission

Welcome to the PHOENIX House. Our Vision is that people recovering from mental illness or trauma in the Abilene area achieve their full potential and are respected as co-workers, neighbors, students and friends.

The PHOENIX House is a membership-based community where people living with mental illness or trauma can recover to lead personally satisfying and productive lives. Participants – who are called members, not patients, and are reflective of our area’s rich diversity – share ownership and responsibility for the success of the Clubhouse. They work in an empowering partnership with a small staff, building on their strengths rather than focusing on illness. Recovery is achieved in the Clubhouse through work and educational opportunities, and social relationships, which are proven to be restorative and provide a firm foundation for growth, dignity, and individual achievement. The PHOENIX House draws inspiration from and aims to adhere to the Standards of the worldwide Clubhouse movement – a SAMHSA recognized evidence-based practice.

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we were forced to quarantine and close our doors. Because much of our funding stream depending on grants and donations, our funding dried and we were unable to maintain our building. We then began operating virtually to meet the ongoing mental health needs of our Membership (#PhoenixhouseVirtual) . Now that things are easing in Texas by directive of the Governor, we are in search of a another facility we can use as our new “Home”. We are progressively moving forward thanks to the awarding of the EIDL COVID-19 Rescue Grant by the SBA for non-profits.  Our fundraising efforts are geared toward reaching our goals and our Vision realized is in sight.  Your support is vital, wanted and appreciated. Thank You.
