Welcome to the PHOENIX House. Our Vision is that people recovering from mental illness or trauma in the Abilene area achieve their full potential and are respected as co-workers, neighbors, students and friends.
The PHOENIX House is a membership-based community where people living with mental illness or trauma can recover to lead personally satisfying and productive lives. Participants – who are called members, not patients, and are reflective of our area’s rich diversity – share ownership and responsibility for the success of the Clubhouse. They work in an empowering partnership with a small staff, building on their strengths rather than focusing on illness. Recovery is achieved in the Clubhouse through work and educational opportunities, and social relationships, which are proven to be restorative and provide a firm foundation for growth, dignity, and individual achievement. The PHOENIX House draws inspiration from and aims to adhere to the Standards of the worldwide Clubhouse movement – a SAMHSA recognized evidence-based practice.
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we were forced to quarantine and close our doors. . We began operating virtually to meet the ongoing mental health needs of our Membership (#PhoenixhouseVirtual), which proved to be successful and our membership grew. Thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Abilene and the EIDL COVID-19 Rescue Grant by the SBA for non-profits, and a grant from the Rotary Club of Abilene, we have re-opened our doors for in-person operations under the banner, “…PHOENIX rising.” We continue our fundraising efforts designed to reach our goals and accomplish our Vision, now in sight. Your support is vital, wanted and appreciated. Visit us at 202 South Leggett Drive. Abilene. You’ll be amazed. Thank You.
We are currently enlarging the scope of our website to include a page dedicated to our 5-Year Capital Stewardship Campaign “Strength & Renewal 2021-2026” for long-term goals. Visit the Page.
